Halloween/Pumpkin Carving 2011

Here are our pumpkins this year.

This is the one I carved.

Mumford Visit

We went to visit our good friends the Mumfords. We met them in graduate school at Stanford and now they actually live in Indiana too. They only live two hours away which is awesome. We are definitely going to start hanging out more!

The Mumfords live in West Lafayette which is right next door to Lafayette. And who happens to have been born and raised in Lafayette? Axl Rose of course. So Ben had to stop at his childhood home.

And his high school.

The kids had so much fun together. They played and played. It was awesome.

Saturday we went to a great corn maze. We stayed for hours! Here we are lost.

All the kids. They are so cute.

Picking our pumpkins.

Science Fair--Lettuce Experiment

Ah, the dreaded Science Project. I now know why it's dreaded. Blah. Eight days of testing lettuce. We were trying to see what keeps lettuce the freshest for longest. Tupperware, ziplock bags, plastic wrap, or on a plate. On top of that we stored the lettuce in a head, leaves, and chopped. So we weighed, tasted, felt, and smelled 12 samples every day. Well, I didn't taste it every day but Alexis had to. Ha Ha. She was really tired of this project by day 5.

Cross Country

This year Alexis decided to join the Cross Country team. She had practice every day for two months and meets on Wednesdays. She also had a couple of invitationals on Saturdays. She had a lot of fun. She did briefly get shin splints but we rested and treated them and they went away pretty quickly. I remember getting those as well. It was really fun to cheer her on and see her enjoy something that I enjoyed in school.

Surgery

Audrey had her tonsils and adenoids taken out on August 30th. She was actually looking forward to it because she had had strep throat twice already in August. She felt very silly in her gown. She kept trying to run away from the camera.

Here we are waiting for Audrey to be taken away.

The surgery was a killer. Audrey had horrible reactions to the anti-nausea medicine they gave her. It made her throw up which caused her pain meds to quit working. We were finally able to get her home. She did fine the first night but as soon as she woke up she began throwing up for hours. She had to get new pain medicine. It was the worst 13 days. Audrey told me numerous times that she felt like she was going to die. It is truly horrible to watch your child be in so much pain.

Once she was fully healed she got a sinus infection that turned into pneumonia. Let's just say our month of September really stunk. However, she is all better and looking at her today you would never know she went through all of that. She is one tough customer.

First Day of School--August 2011

I decided to take the girls pictures after their first day of school this year. I thought it would be a more accurate portrayal of how their day actually went. Alexis had a great day and every day since then has also been great. So far middle school has been fantastic!

Audrey told me when she got home that her day was just okay. She wouldn't give me a real, full smile because of that.

WI Last Summer Visit

Our second to last week of summer vacation we headed up to WI to visit friends. We stayed with Amy and Jim. It was great. The kids just played and played and Amy and I just got to hang out and have fun. We went to Doctor's Park and headed down to the beach. The kids caught some frogs.

We also spent some time with our other good friends, the Langkamps and Weisgerbers. We had great fun with everyone.

Amy and I also got to catch a gig! It was so fun. It was in Elkhart. We went to a gig here once before here and we were the only people who came. This time the place was packed. But we still had a great time.

Beach Fun

This summer I found a great little beach in Warsaw. We went several times and plan on going again next summer. The beach area is great and there is a pier with a diving board. Both girls loved the diving board too.
